United Way of Northwest Alabama is a nonprofit organization dedicated to improving lives by mobilizing the caring power of communities in Colbert, Franklin, Lauderdale, Marion, and Lawrence counties.
UWNAL works to advance the common good by focusing on education, financial stability, and health. We support various local nonprofits and initiatives through grant funding, advocacy, and volunteerism.
UWNAL raises funds through workplace campaigns, individual donations, corporate sponsorships, and grants. We also organize fundraising events and collaborate with community partners.
You can donate online through our website, participate in workplace giving campaigns, attend fundraising events, or contact UWNAL directly to discuss donation options.
UWNAL follows a rigorous process to allocate funds, which includes reviewing agency applications, conducting site visits, and evaluating outcomes to ensure donations have the greatest impact on the community. Our Impact Committee is comprised of volunteers from Lauderdale, Colbert, Franklin, and Marion County residents. The committee determines which organizations to fund, not United Way staff. If you are interested in being on this committee, please reach out to us!
Yes, UWNAL encourages community members to volunteer our time and skills. They offer various volunteer opportunities throughout the year, which can be found on our website or by contacting our office. Our annual Day of Caring is a great time to volunteer for community-wide projects.
UWNAL measures impact through data collection, program evaluations, and community assessments. We track outcomes related to education, income stability, health, and overall community well-being. This is an area we are diligently working on improving even further! Be on the lookout for the ALICE Report that will be available in the next year.
Nonprofits can apply for funding during UWNAL's annual application process. Information about eligibility criteria, deadlines, and application forms are typically available on our website, Facebook, local newspapers, or by contacting UWNAL directly.
Yes, UWNAL is part of the United Way Worldwide network, which includes thousands of organizations across the globe working to address community needs and create positive change. However, local United Ways serves our local communities. We each have our own 501c3 and Board of Directors. We raise funds in our 5 counties, and we distribute our funds raised in the same community.
You can subscribe to our newsletter, follow our social media platforms, visit our website regularly for updates, or attend community events we organize or participate in. Feel free to reach out to us at 256-764-5892 for more information.
