Vision: A connected community empowering all to achieve educational goals and live healthy and financially confident lives.

Mission: Uniting Northwest Alabama to impact access to health, education, and financial stability through an equitable and strategic lens.

In 2022, United Way of Northwest Alabama conducted a comprehensive community needs assessment to better understand the most pressing challenges facing our region. Based on those findings, our grantmaking has been focused on six key areas that create lasting impact for local individuals and families:

  • Improving access to mental health care
  • Increasing literacy by 4th grade
  • Supporting the mental health of children and youth
  • Strengthening financial skills for adults
  • Expanding access to reliable transportation
  • Increasing availability of affordable, low-income housing

Building on this foundation, we are now conducting a more in-depth needs assessment to further explore the emerging and evolving needs of our community. This updated study will help ensure that our funding decisions are guided by real-time data—allowing us to make the greatest possible impact and continue improving lives across Northwest Alabama.
